UGA RACE WEEKEND, ATHENS, G.A.

I'm going to keep this short and sweet, cuz we are hungry and headed downtown.

ITT-Men's A

Spencer got 2nd place

Chris got 3rd place

Todd did well (12TH)
ALL OF US WERE IN THE POINTS BABY!

RR-Men's A

Chris WON! He was in the initial break that went off and never got caught, and in the last big hill he pulled away solo and hammered it in the last 3 miles with a massive crosswind and his eyes rolled in the back of his head. When he went on that break, I knew he would stay in it and do great, and he sure did!

Spencer Top 10-probably 7th.-Spencer started a 2nd break group and a few others came on with him. He dropped them slowly and surely and broke away on the final roller and came in solo for probably 7th place. He passed a few guys who were dropped from Chris's break of 8, and came over the line in probably 7th.

Todd-Top 20 in a pull away win thingee from the main group. It was nice.
So we all got points, and got lots of points, in fact. We are going to that veggie place from last year, and this time its paid for by Dr. Scott McClure DDS...thanks pop. (who will never read this)

FIRST HAND RIDER ACCOUNTS
WRITTEN BY CHRIS BUTLER

After the Saturday morning time trial (SPENCER, TODD AND I PLACED 2ND, 12TH AND 3RD, RESPECTIVELY) we grabbed a quick bite to eat at a little sandwhich shop in downtown Athens. Spencer, Todd and I were representing Furman in the Men's A road race which was scheduled to be on the time trial course, consisting of 6 laps totaling 66 miles. With a last minute correction, the road race was shortened to just 5 laps (55 miles), who knows why!

After a couple of laps and going over a pretty steep roller several times the field was wearing down. Todd did well to hold onto the fast pace, while guys were falling off the back. Spencer and I were taking turns covering breaks, and finally I got in one that stuck. There were seven other riders in the break, 2 UF, 2 LMC, 1 UGA, 1 Clemson, and 1 Cumberland rider. Most of the teams in the peloton were represented, so the field was content with us rolling away.

With such a large break, there was no way I could beat all of them in a downhill sprint. So during the last lap with 7 miles to go I attacked on a pretty steep but short hill. Three of the riders were dropped from the break, and I was off the front, so four guys were trying to chase me down. I was feeling good that day, so I put down a hard effort and stayed away for the solo victory. Spencer and Todd also did well, and gave Furman a strong showing!
