Preparing for Collegiate Nationals

Ok so a whole lot has gone on since the Auburn Race Weekend. I feel like time flies so fast and it takes a well oiled mind to be able to keep up with this blog.

We raced very well at the SEC Conference Championships a few weeks ago in Banner Elk, NC. This event was hosted by Lees- Mcrae, but dominated by Furman Cycling.

Team Time Trial (Spencer, Chris, Craig, Kit)- 2nd place

Men's A Road Race
----Chris Butler--1st place!
----Spencer Beamer--4th place!
----Craig Mckinney --13th place!
----Todd McClure--15th place!

All of our A riders scored points in this race of attrition. Many riders dropped by the way-side each lap as they had to face 1500 feet of climbing every 10 miles. It was intense, and when I woke up the next day I discovered muscles that I never knew that I had.

Men's B Road Race

Kit Hunter--6th place!

With 15 miles to go, Kit attacked on the flatter section of the course, dropped the 3 other scrubs that were with him, and rode the entire 4th and final lap in sweaty solitude. He put his Time Trialing skills to the test and was able to stay clear of any other riders coming from behind and finished in 6th place!  Way to go Kittles!

Our next race on the schedule will be the last one of the collegiate racing season. We are heading to Ft. Collins on Wednesday May 7th, 2008 for USA CYCLING Collegiate National Championships.  We will arrive in Colorado with high hopes of high finishes in the final standings. Our Team Time Trial squad is feeling stronger than ever, and with the 2 spankin' new disc wheels that our sponsors bought us, all of our riders will be more aerodynamic than that new thin Mac laptop that fits in the manilla envelope...you know the one!

With thousands and thousands of feet of climbing over the road race course, our climbing extraordinaire Christopher Butler is hoping to spin his legs, and scramble the eggs, of the competition. They're gonna be tore up from the floor up...no doubt.

And both the McClure parents and Beamer parents will be on-site to help with muscle rubdowns, bike repairs, powergel IV infusions, victory dances, and lots of cheering and hoopin' and hollerin'.  So that's nice too.

Stay tuned for a final update from our race in Colorado
